Back to School Basics

Wow, summer sure FLEW by with the quickness and now it seems everywhere you look it’s fall clothes, backpacks, and school supplies. While that school supply list may overwhelm you, the good news is that your kid’s clothes shopping doesn’t have to. I stopped by a couple stores to find great basics for your kids that they can wear all school year.

My first stop was GAP because it is one of my favorite stores to buy basics with great prices and quality. I ventured over to the boys section to start with jeans and shorts. We have decided in our house that pretty much anything goes with a camouflage print (solid tees, striped tees, chambray) so that’s a great basic to add in the mix of solids.

I have found that a great chambray shirt goes a long way in my son’s closest just like it does mine, and GAP has a great one for the guys.

We are also a big fan of slip on shoes and I loved the assortment they had that can be thrown in the washing machine.

If you are in the market for uniform pieces, GAP also has those in stock and I was surprised to see they also have an assortment of lunch boxes and backpacks – even some great character options.

The girls side of the store was loaded with cute pieces like knit dresses you could easily take into the fall by adding a cardigan or a jacket and leggings.

They also had a pair of overalls that took me back in time to my school days – so fun!

These tops would be perfect for school pictures with the simple embroidery and pop of color.

And, of course, shoes that can transition into fall like the fun flats, booties, and if your girl loves sparkle – well, this shoe speaks for itself.

Teens would also have plenty to find at GAP with their wide assortment of jeans, basic tees, and lightweight sweaters for those chilly classrooms.

Same goes for the guys with the selection of shorts and jeans along with tees, long sleeve shirts you can use year round, and a great denim jacket.

Next stop was Belk for some more finds – especially backpacks! They have a huge assortment if you are in the market for a new one.

With great brands like POLO and Under Armor, you can stock up on tees for your guys knowing they will last all year long and into next spring and summer.

For your girls, I spotted some great tops and shorts that would be easy to layer on those chilly mornings.

And the juniors had more wonderful pieces such as graphic tees, colored jeans in the super trendy blush color, and more wonderful basics that are great to have in your closet to add in some fun jewelry or patterned pieces once the weather cools off in the fall.

I hope this helps give you some ideas as you are out shopping The Avenue! What are your back to school basics? Comment below and share!
